4 Mistakes People Make Trying to Reduce Stress

Stress is not a one-size fits all issue; nor is reducing stress a one-size fits all solution. Many people want to reduce their stress but have been very unsuccessful in doing so. People are unsuccessful in reducing stress because of the 4 mistakes they make.

Avoid these 4 mistakes when reducing stress

Mistake #1- Not using the correct stress management strategy or technique

  • Most stress management strategies and techniques can help to reduce a wide range of stress. However, some strategies and techniques are not good for every stressful situation. Nor is every strategy and technique good for the person implementing it.

Mistake #2- Not being intentional about reducing stress

  • To effectively reduce stress you have to want to manage your stress. You need to create a plan. You need to be intentional. Many people rush through the techniques, because they don’t have time. They put stress management off or they try to do it while multitasking with other commitments.

Mistake #3- Not changing habits or lifestyle

  • In order to manage stress, you will have to change your habits and lifestyle. No matter how much stress management coaching you receive, no matter how many techniques you know and do; if you still have bad habits or have an unhealthy lifestyle you will be unsuccessful in managing your stress.

Mistake #4- Not being consistent

  • Stress management is not something that you can do and be done with it. The strategies and techniques are skills to learn and use for the rest of your life. You can’t just do the technique once or manage your stress for a week and expect to have a handle on your stress.  You must be consistent in managing your stress.

Stress management is not a one-time occurrence. Managing stress is a journey; it requires focus, intention, consistency, a change of habits and you must choose the technique that is right for you and your stressful situation.
