There are are many factors that causes stress. Stress affects everyone, but it is not a one size fits all issue. What stresses one person out may not stress another person out; a situation that stresses me out may not stress you out and vice versa.
There are many factors and things that cause stress in our life. Stress can be caused by internal factors which are our thoughts, habits, beliefs and expectations (of yourself and of others). There are also external factors that causes stress in our lives which are outside environmental forces, pressures and events that occur that are beyond our control.
However, there are some stressors that everyone has in common, it’s just that we react, respond and handle them differently.
The most common causes of stress
- Work– Workplace stress is the most common cause of stress in society. Employers are demanding more and more from their employees. Some employers use scare tactics and threats on employees to get want they want from the employee. This causes high stress because the employee doesn’t receive any benefits to the increasing demands and workloads; also they live in constant fear of losing their livelihood.
- Finances– The cost of living is constantly going up, but salaries are not. This causes great stress because many people are uncertain of how they will continue to provide for their self and their family. Current retirees are fearful that their money will run and they will have to return to work.
- Health– Bad health or declining health whether it’s you or your loved-one is always stressful. Especially, since the cost of medical care and healthcare keeps rising. Stress weakens the immune system which causes illnesses and diseases to develop in your body.
- Environmental– Stressed is caused by living in an unsafe environment. Whether it’s violence and crime, air pollution, water pollution/contamination, noise, social unrest. Your environment plays a large part in causing stress, it the one stress factor that we cannot always control.
- Family/ Friends– The death of a family member or friend can cause stress along with other problems. Toxic relationships cause stress. Family and friends causes stress, when there are disagreements, differences of opinions and lifestyle choices.
- Daily Life– the hassles of daily life can cause stress, if you let it. Daily hassles such a road blocks, traffic jams, lack of time, the constant barking of the neighbor’s untrained dog
